Who We Are

Mission Statement

The Doula Association of Virginia is dedicated to fostering leadership, education, and mutual support among doulas. Our mission is to elevate the doula profession, ensure its growth, sustainability, and recognition. We provide doulas with the resources and tools to build and sustain their businesses, work within established organizations, or pursue both paths. Through advocacy, conflict resolution, and a commitment to professionalism, we aim to equip doulas with the skills to thrive in the business of birth work.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to create a thriving, sustainable doula community where birth workers are empowered with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to succeed. We envision a future where doulas, united by a collective voice, are recognized as essential professionals, equipped to build their own businesses, collaborate with others, and advocate for the families they serve. Through education, leadership, and a strong, unified community, we aim to elevate the doula profession, fostering growth, empowerment, and mutual support across the birth work industry.

Empower — We are committed to empowering doulas to be the professionals they aspire to be. Whether guiding clients through pregnancy, offering childbirth education, providing lactation support, teaching related classes, or managing the business side of their practice, the Doula Association of Virginia encourages doulas to stand strong and confident in their profession.
Educate — We strive to provide doulas with the necessary resources and education to thrive in their careers. From administrative business practices to community support for clients navigating pregnancy and the postpartum period, we ensure doulas are equipped to meet the demands of their profession.
Unite — We aim to unite all doulas, whether independent practitioners or members of a collective, so that each doula knows their voice is valued, heard, and impactful. Together, we strengthen the collective voice of doulas, recognizing that there is power in unity. Additionally, we seek to connect doulas with allies in the medical, public health, and community sectors to create a collaborative, supportive environment.
Advocate — We are dedicated to advocating for the rights, guidelines, and protection of doulas. Our goal is to ensure doulas are recognized and supported in their vital work.
Support — We are committed to supporting doulas holistically—mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We recognize the unique challenges of the doula profession and strive to provide a robust support system for those who dedicate their lives to the care of others.
